Curious About How It Works?

Our Family Skills Group is planning to start in early or mid-August, giving you just enough time to put the initial sessions to use as the 2022-2023 school year begins.

If you’ve been in therapy before (with us or another provider), do you remember having the thought as your therapist was talking, “I wish my mom/partner/brother/grandparent or someone else in the family was hearing this”? Often we learn really valuable things in therapy but have a hard time bringing them back with us into our life at home. This group is meant to help bridge that gap.

There is built-in accountability when your family shows up to group together and learns together. Beyond that, we’re building a shared language that can be incredibly helpful as your family navigates the challenging adolescent years.

Our family skills group is a great option for families with teens of all ages who are dealing with the normal challenges of adolescence. Teens with substance abuse concerns or those demonstrating other high-risk behaviors are not appropriate for this group. If that is the case, our client care coordinator can help you get connected with appropriate care.

As this is a 100% virtual therapy group, this is a great option for those who have a very busy schedule and a number of family members’ schedules to coordinate.

Each session will follow the curriculum as designed by the group’s facilitator, Dave White, LPC.

Sessions will last 90 minutes approximately and follow the following structure:

Opening Mindfulness Activity – 15-20 min
Homework/Treatment Recommendation Review – 15-20 min
Skill Instruction – 40-55 min
Weekly Homework Assignment  – 5-10 min

Identify a suitable room that is quiet, private, and free of outside distractions and interruptions. Ideally, you’re able to connect from a desktop and position it so that each family member is within the frame. Outdoor spaces can work as well!

To keep background noise to a minimum, make sure to close any doors, shut windows, turn off the television, and keep loud pets in another room if possible. Put your phone on airplane mode and encourage your teens to do the same.

Just like a face-to-face appointment, your Telehealth visit will be private and confidential. All video calls are conducted through our practice management system which uses a HIPAA compliant software so your information and video conference will be secure and 100% Private. None of our appointments will ever be recorded or stored.

Guarantees of confidentiality and professionalism are offered by our facilitators, however, due to the nature of group therapy, there is a potential that group members may not respect the confidentiality of sessions to the highest degree. This has not been an issue in the past, however, we believe it’s important to be informed of the risks.

These sessions will be billed as “Group Therapy” and each member will be individually responsible for their co-pay, co-insurance or out-of-pocket fee.

We do accept Out-of-Network and In-Network insurance. We often find that Out-of-Network mental health coverage is comparable to In-Network mental health coverage so do not be discouraged if we are not In-Network with your plan. Our administrative team will collect your insurance information, verify coverage for you and ensure you understand the cost of services before the group is set to begin.

We are in-network with Cigna, Optum, United Healthcare and Oxford.

We are committed to making therapy services accessible to the community. Therefore, we have implemented a billing system for Out-of-Network clients that is atypical in that, once we verify your coverage, you will only be billed for your coinsurance. You will not be billed for the full fee up-front; solely the percentage of the fee as stated on your insurance plan. Additionally, we also submit and process all the billing, relieving the client of that task. *Clients are responsible for any balance that insurance does not pay.
